A proposal for a structure for a
``European Standard Parallel C++''
(EC++)

A.McEwan P. Dzwig

Abstract:

This document outlines a definition for EC++. EC++ represents a framework within which Parallel C++ might be standardised.

It aims to set out a framework for open, portable Parallel C++ systems which will run across a wide variety of hardware architectures and encompass as wide a set of computing paradigms as possible. The aim is for a minimal set of extensions to the C++ language to express parallelism and define the contents of system management libraries, communications interfaces and data parallel libraries. The basic assumption is of the existence of a communications system, while making no assumptions as to what the nature of that system might be.
